A NAME; A MISSION.
The word Manudonna brings together two roots:
“Manu”, the first human in Sanskrit, symbolising structure and hierarchy, and “Donna”, woman in Italian, representing intuition and the wisdom of the circle.
The name reflects our core intention: to foster peace between men and women as the foundation for creating new ways of living together—in communities, on land we aim to restore and return to the Earth and to people.
This vision is about building places where collaboration, respect, and mutual growth can thrive—spaces that support both individual transformation and collective responsibility.
The journey began in 2010, when Margaretha Doderer brought together a circle of women in Italy.
For several years, they met monthly to explore female leadership, goddess archetypes, and matriarchal knowledge—searching for alternatives to dominant societal models. This journey brought to the next step:
In 2010 Margaretha launched together with her Life partner an experiment: The LaughingTrees School.
This school functioned for eight years as a space for testing community-building practices, conflict resolution, and regenerative methods for living and working together. When the learning cycle was complete, the school closed in 2018.
In 2019, a German couple offert a house in Umbria to support the continuation of this work.
The idea of a foundation was born again, and so Sabrina Pastorelli, Antonella Sperotti and Margaretha founded the Manudonna Foundation, which was formally established in 2021.
The house was donated in 2022 and now serves as the foundation’s main location and coordination center.
From 2020 to 2025, the focus was on building a strong field — online and offline.
Two large-scale, 100-day online programs brought together around 100 women each, investing in leadership training and matriarchal knowledge. Meanwhile, the house in Umbria hosted regular gatherings and continued the work locally.
Now, we are preparing for our next step.
In 2025, we will launch a crowdfunding campaign to develop a piece of land where men and women can live, work, and grow in harmony with nature—a space rooted in freedom, community, and sustainable living.
Our approach is practical, collaborative, and forward-looking.
We believe real change happens not through confrontation, but through building viable, living alternatives—together.
